Fire union raising cash to fight charter changes

Fire Capt. Dave Macedo, president of Stockton Professional Firefighters Local 456, told me tonight that the union was finalizing an additional member assessment to raise up to $130,000 for its political action committee.

That money will be used to fight a November ballot measure to change Fire Department provisions in the City Charter.

He also said the union will begin polling voters on Sunday as it begins its campaign.

In the meantime, the union has roughly $200,000 in its legal defense fund for its court battles, Macedo said.
