Deis’ car trip

Former Sonoma County Administrator Bob Deis, who is to become city manager July 1, came to Stockton the other day to buy a car, Vice Mayor Kathy Miller said.

Mayor Ann Johnston over and over in public appearances has appealed to residents to shop in Stockton, both for the tax benefit and to support local businesses. There was some fuss at City Hall when then-City Manager Gordon Palmer and council members Diana Lowery and Elbert Holman bought cars out of town last year.

Deis, of Santa Rosa, intends to move to Stockton. He needed a car, Miller said, and he wanted to buy it here.

“He said they’re going to be members of the community,” she said. “It’s a major purchase.”

Bonus points for Deis: He bought a Prius, Miller said.
