Morning roundup

Xochitl Paderes, who failed in her bid for appointment to the District 1 City Council seat in January, is starting her 2010 campaign for that seat with a lunch fundraiser Saturday at The Outback Steakhouse. The slogan on her Web site: “Let’s clear our way out of this mess!!”

In District 5, City Councilwoman Susan Eggman wrote this morning on her campaign Facebook page, “Great time and turn out at the Oktoberfest last night – we had 50 RSVP and 131 attend!”

In District 3, University of the Pacific graduate student Arthur Murrillo forwarded a letter that he wrote¬†Police Officer Mike Otten, thanking him for letting Murrillo join him for a ride-along¬†(candidates do that, as a matter of course). He wrote, “I saw first hand how some documented and confessed criminals and gang members try to use their ethnicity and lie about their ability to speak English in their failed attempts to deceive law enforcement to excuse their criminal enterprise. I appreciate your professionalism and your courage in protecting our community.”

Murrillo signed the letter, “Arthur Murrillo, M.A.”
