More from City Hall: Renison asks Holman to step down on Ford matter

5:45 p.m.:

Public comment is open.

Mayor Ann Johnston is limiting comments to three minutes instead of five. She said that is because she has a large number of comment cards.

The Rev. Glen Shields has elected to wait to speak until the agenda item concerning Ford is up. William Childress, then is first.┬áHe is a critic of the administration’s firing of Johnny Ford.

“I submit, that if there are hands to be spanked, we don’t have to look very far to issue some reprimands,” he said.

5:49 p.m.:

Dave Renison, who opened his candidacy for City Council on Monday, is at the podium. Here we should learn how Renison and Don Parsons will handle the Ford matter in the campaign. Renison said, “It’s disappointing that so much of this council’s attention” is being dedicated to a matter that is the city manager’s to make. Renison is calling the investigation a distraction. He is now asking Councilman Elbert Holman Jr. to recuse himself from the process, saying his early comments about Ford “taint” his situation.

Renison is seeking to oust Holman in next year’s election.
