Hippo no more

One of the only things different about the Lexington Plaza Waterfront Hotel since it reopened Thursday is that The Hippo Lounge & Bar has been renamed. A menu for The Delta Restaurant and Lounge (A San Joaquin County health inspection is scheduled to be done Tuesday, and the restaurant is likely that day to reopen) was in the lobby this morning.

“Hippo” was the nickname of John Thomas, the developer whose Sacramento-based Regent Development built the hotel. Regent Hotel LLC filed for bankruptcy protection last year. First Bank foreclosed on the hotel and took posession of it last month.

Brad Houseworth of Stoc Associates, LLC, a subsidiary of GF Management, the company managing the hotel, said today there “there were several things attached to Hippo that leave a bad taste in some people’s mouths.”

It is time at the Lexington for a “fresh start,” he said.
