More from City Hall: Crime down in 2009

5:48 p.m.:

Police Chief Blair Ulring is in the second chair to update the council on crime, and the report is a positive one. Violent crime is down 11.5 percent in the first half of this year from the same period in 2008, he said. Property crime is down 19 percent.

Felony arrests are down 17.8 percent. Misdemeanor arrests are down 14.7 percent. Ulring said that could be attributed to a reduction in crime and to a reduction in proactive policing (He’s mentioning but not  belaboring the budget situation).

His presentation is done and it’s back to the council.

Councilman Elbert Holman Jr. said, “Good job. Those numbers are impressive.”
