On Murrillo

Arthur Murrillo, a University of the Pacific graduate student who announced Saturday his candidacy for the City Council in north Stockton’s District 3, was among the delegates in Denver last year for the National Democratic Convention. Richard Blackston, chairman of the San Joaquin County Democratic Central Committee, however, took issue this morning with this blog’s characterization of Murrillo as being active in the Democratic circles.

“He has no standing within the Democratic Party of San Joaquin County,” Blackston said. “He’s not involved. He comes to meetings now and then.”

There are other ways, of course, to be active in Democratic politics. But Blackston’s call was an indication at least one other Democrat could be in play in District 3 (Council seats are nonpartisan, but races are typically not without party involvement).

“We’re working on it right now,” Blackston said. “We don’t have a name.”
