Grumbling claim

Kevin Grumbling, the Information Technology Department director laid off in a massive budget-reduction measure in February, has filed a claim for damages, a typical precursor to litigation.

 

In his July 20 claim Grumbling said he has suffered humiliation and mortification, among other damages. He claims City Manager Gordon Palmer did not have the authority to eliminate his position. City Hall has said the layoff, one of many, was an appropriate and necessary response to the city’s multimillion dollar budget problem.

 

In a Feb. 8 letter attached to the claim Grumbling’s lawyer, Daniel Bartley, concludes:

 

For the good of the City, and for the protection of my client’s rights, I implore you to ask Mr. Palmer to rescind his decision to decapitate and eviscerate the Department of Information Technology, pending prudent study and consideration.
