Helms and friends bid high for dinner

Deputy Police Chief Mark Helms, his wife, Debbie, and their friends Tony and Kimberly Stevens put together the high bid, $1,150, in Saturday’s auction for charity of a dinner prepared by the City Council’s Freshman Four.

The winners have yet to set a date or menu for the dinner, to be prepared by Vice Mayor Kathy Miller and council members Dale Fritchen, Elbert Holman Jr. and Diana Lowery, Helms said.

The Freshman Four have had aprons made for the occasion.

The auction was at Hospice of San Joaquin Butterfly Auxiliary’s Moonlight Sip & Stroll. Proceeds are to benefit Hospice House of San Joaquin. Helms said this afternoon that the council members were “making a wonderful gesture to help out Hospice.” His group was pleased to be a part of that, he said.

“Hospice is a great organization,” Helms said. “They do great things.”
