Notice of default on Chavez loan

A notice of default has been filed on former Mayor Ed Chavez’s $257,000 loan for a condominium he marketed as a short sale before leaving office in December. Chavez, a former police chief, retired to a home he had built in Sun City Shadow Hills, an active adult community in Indio.

His Driftwood Place condominium – a two-bedroom, 2 ½ bath condominium with hardwood floors and a wet bar – had been listed for $160,000. Chavez paid $332,000 for it in 2005.

The notice of default, filed July 24, claimed Chavez owed $11,131.
