The Ulring release

The Blair Ulring announcement has just arrived from City Hall:

Ulring Appointed Police Chief

(Stockton, CA)  – After months of both internal and external searches and interviews, Blair Ulring has been appointed to the position of Stockton Police Chief.

“Chief Ulring has demonstrated the ability to lead effectively and efficiently during perhaps the most difficult and challenging period in the history of our city,” said City Manager Gordon Palmer.  “During the past several months, he has proven time and time again that he is the best person for the position.  He will provide leadership as we move into a new era within the City of Stockton, and we are pleased and honored to have him serve as the Chief of Police.”

Chief Ulring joined the Stockton Police Department in 1984, has held positions in every major division within the department, and was promoted consistently throughout his career: Sergeant in 1991, Lieutenant in 1997; Captain in 2004; Deputy Chief in 2005, and Assistant Chief in 2008.  Ulring was appointed as interim Chief in February of this year.  He graduated from the prestigious West Point Leadership and Command Program, the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and POST Command College, and holds a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement Management.

“Serving as the interim Police Chief is a tremendous opportunity to work through some very difficult situations,” said Chief Ulring.  “I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with the Mayor and Council, our department, and the community in the years to come.”

Chief Ulring is the forty-eighth Police Chief to serve the City of Stockton since the first Chief of Police was appointed in 1850.
