More from City Hall: Rate hike approved

7:50 p.m.:

Following a presentation by Municipal Utilities Director Mark Madison, the City Council is ordering a 63 percent increase in residential water rates over four years to fund Stockton’s $217 million Delta Water Supply Project, its bid to take drinking water from the Delta.

The vote is 6-1. Councilwoman Susan Eggman dissented.

There had been 51 valid protests filed. To block the rate increase would have required more than 20,000 protests.

“This really is a watershed moment in the history of Stockton,” Mayor Ann Johnston said.
