Pettet: Recall effort to begin

Alan Pettet, the founder of Stockton Armed Militia – the group Pettet said will patrol Stockton with firearms if police are laid off – said before this evening’s City Council meeting that he intends to launch a recall campaign against Mayor Ann Johnston and council veterans, Leslie Baranco Martin and Susan Eggman.

The City Charter provides that any petition for the recall of a council member must be signed by 20 percent of registered voters in that council member’s district. For the mayor a petition requires the signatures of 20 percent of registered voters citywide.

That is a tall order. And for Johnston, Pettet may have to wait a week or two. The Charter does not allow for a recall of any officer who has held his or her office in the current term for less than six months.
