Budget and Finance: Paying for retiree medical

3:55 p.m.:

To build the Health Fund and reduce Stockton’s $388 million unfunded retiree medical liability, the city has increased each department’s Health Fund contribution from $1,550 per month per employee to $1,700 per month per employee, Budget Officer Joe Maestretti said. The administration has proposed increasing that contribution to $1,875 in fiscal 2009-10. The charge will likely increase to about $2,000 per month per employee in 2010-11, Maestretti said.
