Double Take

Today El Concilio hosts its annual Navidad en el Valle (Christmas in the Valley) Tamale Dinner at the Civic Auditorium, 525 N. Center St, taking place from 5 pm to 8 pm. Cost is $10 per plate (includes two tamales, Mexican rice and beans). This is a Food basket fundraiser.

Tonight is one of my favorite local shopping experiences – the Peaceful Holiday Faire which promotes non-violence through the offering of unique art and handmade gifts and fair trade items.  The faire is held at the Central United Methodist Church, 3700 Pacific Avenue (across from UOP), from 4 pm – 9 pm returning tomorrow from 10 am – 2 pm.

If you aren’t able to pick up your tamales today you will have another opportunity tomorrow during the first Stockton Tamale Festival at the San Joaquín County Fairgrounds, 1658 S. Airport Way, from 10 am to 8 pm. There will be entertainment, professional cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts and a car show. Admission is $10 for adults; $7 for teens 13 -17, college students, teachers and military with ID and seniors 60 and older and free for children 12 years and under.

Tomorrow the popular Stockmarket returns to 630 E. Weber (corner of Weber and Stanislaus) from 10 am – 4 pm providing a fun filled day of shopping.  You will find 70 vendors, music by live bands, ceramic and sketch demos, a dreamcatcher workshop ($10), gift wrapping, a kid’s area, food trucks, artisan food and drink stalls all in one location.
