Enviros: Need more time, info to comment on twin tunnels

Environmental groups are asking for another 60 days to comment on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan, citing in part the lack of an implementation agreement that would spell out many of the specifics.

Read the letter from American Rivers, Defenders of Wildlife, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Bay Institute and The Nature Conservancy.

The public comment period has already been extended once. But, as the letter says, “… Key information has not yet been made available to the public that is critical to developing informed comments on the potential impacts.”

In a media call today, Stockton-based Restore the Delta asserted that clues as to why an implementation agreement hasn’t been released can be found within a document being referred to as the “critical issues” memo,¬†(see page 6),¬†which was reportedly obtained from the Kern County Water Agency. That January memo expresses concern about the cost of the project, the amount of water it will provide, and the engagement — or lack thereof — of federal agencies in the process.
