Not only have the “doors” reopened at Yosemite National Park, but it’s already time to start celebrating the park’s 150th anniversary.
The big day isn’t until June 30, 2014, exactly 150 years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant Act.
Special events, however, are already happening. Up next this weekend is the Yosemite Climbing Festival in Oakdale. A 150th Gala, a Yosemite Mystery Dinner and the premiere of a new documentary are all on the agenda for later this fall, with many more events in the early months of 2014.
It’s nice to have something positive to report about Yosemite after the events of the past few weeks. On the other hand, maybe the temporary closure helps us appreciate all the more our proximity to such a stunning and sacred place.
