Groundwater drops again

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that groundwater levels in east San Joaquin County dropped again last spring, following a historically dry winter.

In the Stockton East Water District, 58 out of 81 wells declined in 2013. In the South San Joaquin Irrigation District, 33 out of 41 wells declined. The trend is similar in other districts, with the exception of North San Joaquin, which somehow saw a majority of wells draw higher (though groundwater levels still dropped in that district, if you average the elevation across all those wells).

Throughout the region, the worst of the declines was 11.5 feet at a Stockton East well. Stockton East also saw a well climb 12 feet, an obvious aberration.

Looks like the report hasn’t been posted yet, but once it is, you should be able to find it here.
