They’re back

Sandhill cranes have been in the news a lot recently, and now — as if attracted to the limelight, which of course, they’re not — the migratory birds began arriving at Staten Island over the weekend, according to a tweet today from the Cosumnes River Preserve.

So, just a reminder that there are a few ways to check out the birds before they head north again next February.

Save Our Sandhill Cranes offers tour at Staten Island starting in late October. Details here.

The Cosumnes preserve offers this viewing guide.

And reservations are currently being accepted for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife’s tours at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve, starting the first weekend in October. Details here.
