Barbara Hildebrand, widow of water engineer extraordinaire Alex Hildebrand, died last week. She was 92.
I didn’t know Barbara as well as I knew Alex, but I do remember her sitting there in the living room of their Manteca home on more than one occasion while Alex attempted to explain to me some arcane detail of south Delta hydrodynamics. I could tell Barbara cared about these issues, too.
According to her obituary, Barbara was a physical therapist before marrying Alex in 1948 and starting a family.
She put in decades volunteering at the Manteca Public Library and in 1999 was inducted into the Manteca Hall of Fame.
Private family services are planned.
