How will ‘Craniacs’ respond?

Record photo by Clifford Oto

It’ll be interesting to see how the self-described “Craniacs” react to the state’s rerouting of the twin tunnels beneath Staten Island, an important piece of sandhill crane habitat.

The Nature Conservancy owns the island, which is protected by a conservation easement to “encourage and promote wildlife-friendly agricultural practices on the property.”

Whether the project can proceed with that easement in place will doubtless be the subject of future debate. I’ve posted the conservation easement documents here; read them and decide for yourself.
