Caltrans responds

In a letter to state legislators, Caltrans says workers’ removal of Restore the Delta signs along Highway 160 “had no political motivation whatsoever” and says Caltrans “will never seek to prevent California residents from expressing their views.”

“Caltrans, unfortunately, did not contact homeowners before removing the signs,” Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty wrote. “Such contact might have avoided this misunderstanding. In short, Caltrans could have handled this situation better, and we will do so in the future.”
