Forget the high — Death Valley’s ‘low’

Nothing like a good Death Valley discussion to make you feel better about Stockton’s expected 107 degrees today.

And yes, Death Valley was in the news quite a bit this weekend, with Sunday’s 129-degree temperature setting an all-time high temperature for the United States in June.

But did anyone notice the overnight low temperature on Sunday morning?

It was 99 degrees — for no more than 10 minutes.

The temperature had been declining all night from Saturday’s high of 124. At 6:20 a.m. Sunday, it dipped to 99 degrees.

By 6:25 a.m. it was 100 degrees again, and climbing. By 9:35 a.m. it was 110, and by 1:15 p.m. it was 120.

Last night’s “low” was even worse. The temperature never got below 101 degrees.

Enjoy that 74-degree low tonight, Stockton.
