Bill Wells, director of the California Delta Chambers & Visitor’s Bureau, issued a call for action this afternoon on the hyacinth invasion, and included this bit of speculation:
“It is the opinion (mine included) of many people that I speak with that this lack of hyacinth control is part of a larger scheme to drive people out of the Delta to make way for more water exports.”
For the record, federal officials have indicated progress working with the state Department of Boating and Waterways on a five-year spraying permit that should resolve the year-to-year bureaucratic dance that delayed or prevented spraying in 2011 and 2012.
