Dueling documentaries

Fresh off Restore the Delta’s unveiling of its “Over Troubled Waters” documentary, another new film appears to tackle California water issues from more of a south Valley perspective.

According to its website, “The Fight for Water” “highlights the human impact an environmental decision had on a farming community when their water supply was shut off, and the march they staged in order to fight for their water.”

The film is said to be from the perspective of farmworkers.

Haven’t seen the whole documentary, but the trailer appears to perpetuate the “fish vs. farmers” myth, implying that the Delta smelt was entirely to blame for the sharp reduction in water deliveries to south Valley farms in 2009. In reality, the state’s drought was the biggest factor.
