‘It’s not the end — it’s the beginning’

Downtown developer Dan Cort spoke last night to the Campaign for Common Ground, saying Stockton’s bankrupty has its roots in decades-old bad planning that pushed the city outward while neglecting its own heart.

“We planned ourself into bankrtupcy,” Cort said. “That’s why we are where we are.”

But, he added, “It’s not the end. It’s the beginning.”

Because the city is among the first to declare bankrtupcy, it can be among the first to reinvent itself and restore its urban core, he said.

Cort plans to give a talk on this “Stockton 2.0″ concept at October’s TEDx conference at the University of the Pacific.
