Once dismissed as a cause for the radical fringe, the United Nations’ Agenda 21 document is now a mainstream Republican issue, the New York Times reports.
We’ve heard a lot about Agenda 21 around here. Last fall members of the Lodi-area Tea Party urged the City Council there to reject a grant to pay for a climate action plan study. The activists invoked the mysterious sounding 1992 U.N. vision for sustainable communities, claiming it threatened the sovereignty of the United States.
After much discussion, the council took the money. If it hadn’t, it would eventually have been forced to pay for a study out of the city’s general fund.
Still, Agenda 21 became a part of the local discussion. Now it seems we’ll be hearing a lot more about it.
