Saturday, July 28: Event, “The Moon over New Melones Lake.” 8 p.m., New Melones amphitheater. Join astronomer Denise Combs for a special look at the moon through fun poetry, edible props and a NASA slide show. More details here.

Tuesday, July 31: Class, ”Intro to Camp Cooking.” 7 p.m., Stockton REI. Learn how to make easy and fun meals for tasty eating outdoors. More details here.

Tuesday, July 31: White Slough Wildlife Area moonlight walk. Meet Audubon Society members at 6 p.m. at the McDonald’s near Highway 12 and Interstate 5.

Saturday, Aug. 4: Audubon Society introduction to birding. Meet Kurt Mize at 8 a.m. at the north end of Laurel Avenue in Lodi, on the east side of Lodi Lake Park. Beginners welcome. For more information call 915-6264 or k1mize@aol.com.

Saturday, Aug. 4: Presentation, “Skins, Scat and Skulls.” 7:30 p.m., New Melones Lake amphitheater. Feel a bear’s fur, examine animal skulls, and identify tracks and scat. More details here.

Monday, Aug. 6: Delta Coalition meeting. 8:30 a.m., San Joaquin Council of Governments.

Monday, Aug. 6: Campaign for Common Ground meeting. 6:30 p.m., Nena’s restaurant at the Waterfront Waterhouse, 445 W. Weber Avenue. Agenda includes discussion of peripheral tunnels; county general plan; and Forward Landfill expansion.

Wednesday, Aug. 8-Thursday, Aug. 9: California Fish and Game Commission meeting in Ventura. Details to be posted here.

Saturday, Aug. 11: Guided paddle trip, Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge near Elk Grove. 9 a.m. Free. Bring canoe or kayak and gear. Also an early trip on Sunday. More details here.

Saturday, Aug. 11: EAT BUGS!!! Head up to New Melones Lake for a program about insects and their role in the ecosystem. As a bonus, you can join the “Bug Club” by “crunching down on some crispy critters.” Yes, there is a prize. 7 p.m. at the New Melones amphitheater. More details here.

Friday, Aug. 17: Guided paddle trip, Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge near Elk Grove. 6 p.m. Free. Bring canoe or kayak and gear. More details here.

Saturday, Aug. 18: Family Day at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Crafts, carriage rides, and story tellers will highlight this annual event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The normal admission of $8 will be used as a donation to support Calaveras Big Trees Association programs and events.
