Saturday, July 7: Free Fishing Day in California. You can fish without a license, but make sure you observe bag and size limits and other regulations. More details here.

Saturday, July 7: Presentation, “Turtles and Tortoises,” New Melones Lake amphitheater.  7:30 p.m. Stan Reif will introduce his collectino of native and exotic turtles and tortoises. More details here.

Saturday, July 7-Sunday, July 8: Ice cream at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The park association will sell ice cream from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day as a fundraiser. More details here.

Monday, July 9-Tuesday, July 10: Delta Stewardship Council meeting. 9 a.m. both days at 980 9th St., Sacramento. The Delta Independent Science Board will discuss its review of ongoing plans in the Delta. More details here.

Tuesday, July 10: Class, “Introduction to Sports Food.” 7 p.m., Stockton REI. Learn how to replenish the body’s water, carbohydrates, electrolytes and proteins. Free. More details here.

Saturday, July 14: Free electronic waste drop-off event hosted by San Joaquin County and Onsite Electronics Recycling. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., San Joaquin Delta College, Shima 2 parking lot. Pickups will also be held during the same hours in Tracy (Boyd Service Center, 520 Tracy Blvd.) and in Escalon (Escalon Community Center, 1055 Escalon Avenue). Saturday, July 21: Audubon Society bird count, Woodbridge Wilderness Area. Meet at 8 a.m. the north end of Meadowlark Land off Woodbridge Road.

Saturday, July 21: Presentation by the Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center at the New Melones Lake amphitheater. 7:30 p.m. The center, which cares for injured and orphaned wildlife, will bring a variety of live creatures for you to see, many of which can be found living around New Melones. Saturday, Aug. 4: Presentation, “Skins, Scat and Skulls.” 7:30 p.m., New Melones Lake amphitheater. Feel a bear’s fur, examine animal skulls, and identify tracks and scat. More details here.

Saturday, Aug. 18: Family Day at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Crafts, carriage rides, and story tellers will highlight this annual event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The normal admission of $8 will be used as a donation to support Calaveras Big Trees Association programs and events.
