April — normally the sixth-wettest month of the year — will apparently go down as the second-wettest month of 2011-12.
Stockton got 2.02 inches of rain last month, more than a quarter of the entire year’s total.
In fact, we got nearly as much rain in April as the months of January and February combined. Why? April was above average and those months were decidedly below average.
The rain helped Stockton avoid what could have been its second-driest year on record (at least, going back to 1948 at the airport). Now, at just shy of 8 inches to date, we are wetter than 2005-06, 1988-89, and the drought years of 1975-76 and 1976-77.
So thank you, April showers, for the pick-me-up. You nudged us closer, at least, to “normal.”
