Reaction to radon

Today’s story about radon gas health risks touched a nerve.

The Calaveras County Environmental Management Agency distributed all of its 50 free radon kits within an hour or so of opening this morning, said director Brian Moss.

The nonprofit Beverly Fund in San Francisco reported 150 inquiries as a result of the story as of early afternoon. The organization still had some kits to give away but expected to run out by week’s end.

There is another option: You can call the private company that contracts with the state Department of Public Health to get a kit. Call (800) 754-7236 and press 1 to navigate the menu. Or you can order a kit here.
