UOP’s big Delta plans
As reported Friday morning, UOP’s Bob Benedetti and Margit Aramburu want to survey the Delta for cultural, historic and ecologic resources. For a brief explanation of their idea in their own words, click here.

DFG: No panty hose when baiting lobster
There’s a real gem in this week’s Department of Fish and Game Q&A.
Doug F. asks:
While hoop netting lobsters in the past, I have used a piece of old panty hose to keep the bait together. Its worked well but recently I have been told this is illegal to do because a lobster may get entangled [...]

You just gotta look
There are zoo animals, and then there are animals that hang out at the zoo.
Record photog Craig Sanders was at Micke Grove Zoo on an unrelated assignment when, between the spider monkey and white-handed gibbon exhibits, he captured an image of this Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and in rare form.

Wednesday’s strong winds apparently toppled a portable toilet about 8:30 a.m. at the Port of Stockton, Dock 20, according to this report to the California Emergency Management Agency.
The port reported the spill to the state, saying it resulted in 20 gallons [...]

Off topic, but….
Here’s a link to a live streaming image of a mama bear expected to deliver cubs, probably sometime this afternoon. The shot is taken from a wild den at an undisclosed location. Warning: There are thousands of people currently viewing and there may be a long load time, or you may get an error message. [...]

Bond campaign begins
The Fresno Bee reports on what is expected to be the first in a series of statewide meetings to educate people about the $11 billion water bond, although this session apparently did not feature anyone in opposition.
The story says the sessions are sponsored by the Association of California Water Agencies, the Cailfornia Latino Water Coalition, [...]
