Salazar’s scorching visit
I was not in Fresno for Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s visit with farmers yesterday, but as the Associated Press points out, the 109-degree temps certainly helped the growers get their point across.
Apparently there were some brave enviros and fishermen there, too.
Here is the top of the AP story:
FRESNO, Calif.—Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on Sunday announced [...]

I’m off…
… to get lost in the Mokelumne Wilderness for a couple of days.
I mean it. I want to get lost.
So I should be back by Monday. Unless I REALLY get lost, in which case, please call the Amador County SO.
Happy trails.

Salazar comes to the Valley
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will visit Fresno for a town hall meeting Sunday on water.
I can hear the “Turn on the pumps!” cries already.
The meeting is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fresno State University Student Union, 2485 E. San Ramon Ave.

Giving up the bottle
Delta College trustees on Tuesday did not have the usual supply of bottled water on the dais.
Instead, they drank from four frosty, gaudy-orange pitchers.
It’s part of the college’s new focus on sustainability. A step back for decor, perhaps (orange?) but a step forward for the planet.

Can I get you something to drink?
Restaurants in Stockton are supposed to deliver water only upon request. At least, that’s what the water conservation ordinance says.
It’s one of those rules that has never really been enforced.
This week, the city and the California Water Service Co., which also supplies a portion of Stockton with water, will begin distributing table-tent cards to restaurants [...]

Delta College memo
On the Delta College front, cut and pasted below is a memo sent by Delta President Raul Rodriguez to the campus community shortly after he informed managers and administrators of an indefinite 5 percent cut in pay.
The memo:
As I am sure you are aware by now, the Board of Trustees approved a reduction in force [...]

Water fight on camera
Comedian/water-supply activist Paul Rodriguez and some heckler just about came to blows over water in Fresno County. Watch.

Catcalls for the governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger took a figurative beating today from Fresno-area farmers who feel he hasn’t done enough to address the water shortage in the south San Joaquin Valley.
The governor also is routinely chastised by those environmentalists and Delta interests who oppose his moving forward with a peripheral canal. They come up with clever phrases about how [...]

That didn’t take long
Westlands Water District and the San Luis Delta Mendota Water Authority have filed a lawsuit against the feds for new rules protecting salmon and steelhead.
Those rules — which the National Marine Fisheries Service estimates will result in a 5 percent to 7 percent decline in Delta pumping — were published less than two weeks ago.
