Countdown to Tipoff: Boys No. 6 – Justice Harris

Chavez guard Justice Harris rises for a shot against Brookside Christian during Edison's 2014 McDonald's Classic. RECORD FILE 2014

Justice Harris doesn’t need theatrics to show his worth on the basketball court.

Harris, an incoming, 6-foot tall senior guard, can shoot the deep ball, dash to the basket, dish, defend and much more.

He and the now-graduated forward Lewis Hayes were two of the major reasons why Chavez split a San Joaquin Athletic Association championship with Bear Creek last winter, and won its first-ever playoff game: at home against Merced.

Harris averaged 16 points, three assists and two steals as a junior, scoring as much as 36 – albeit in a loss to Edison.

And that’s why Harris, the obvious leader for Chavez’s 2015-16 squad, is No. 6 on my Countdown to Tipoff rankings: dissecting the top boys basketball returners in The Record’s coverage area for 2015-16.

How it works: These player rankings are returning players only. These are weighed both by past varsity success and statistical prowess and the potential impact these players may have this year. All factors will be weighed, including whether a player must sit out time after a transfer. At least one player on both the boys and girls lists are a transfer.

Now, this counts down not to the first day of regular-season hoops, which for a handful of teams in the area is Friday, but the day the near entirety of the section begins: with the Foundation games on Monday, Nov. 30.

Away we go:
