All that really matters is kickoff Friday, and the season thereafter.

However, you can’t help but appreciate the statewide recognition some local football players are getting.

Cal-Hi Sports has been releasing its preseason lists throughout the past couple weeks, and unveiled its Sac-Joaquin Section squad Wednesday evening.

Here’s a look at the locals from Stockton, Tracy, Manteca and Lodi who made it:

FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE

WR – L.J. Reed (Tokay, Sr.)

Reed, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound UCLA commit, should make Tokay’s TCAL run fascinating beginning with an Oct. 10 game against Tracy. This guy is the real deal.

OL – Tristen Taylor (Stagg, Sr.)

Taylor, at 6-foot-7, 310 pounds, has offers from Idaho and Eastern Washington, and I think he’ll get even better ones. His height is exactly what D-I scouts want these days.

FIRST-TEAM MULTI-PURPOSE

RB/KR – Nate Jones (Tracy, Sr.)

Jones has phenomenal speed, and not only rushed for 1,174 yards and 19 touchdowns a year ago, but was the SJSCIF 100-meter dash champion.

WR/KR – Lester Williams (Stagg, Sr.)

Williams had 14 TD receptions and over 900 receiving yards as a junior, and should light it up in his prep swan song.

SECOND TEAM

LB – Khalil Hodge (St. Mary’s, Sr.)

Hodge, who had 102 tackles and a pick as a junior, already has an offer from Sacramento State and hopes to lead a resurgent Rams defense.

WR – Hunter Johnson (Sierra, Sr.)

Johnson was quietly a star for the Timberwolves in the Valley Oak League, with 12 TD catches in 2013.

DE/TE – Jordan McMiller (Lincoln, Sr.)

McMiller is a senior leader on a stacked defensive line.
