High-energy performance makes seasons opener a smash

Season openers don’t get much better than this.

The Thunder hung its Western Conference banner and proceeded to put on a stunning performance. It shut out Colorado 5-0 at Stockton Arena and provided many reasons for fans to get excited about the season.

Garet Hunt, the most popular player in th ehistory of the franchise, scored 32 seconds into the season. Goalie Brian Foster was calm and strong. Two new players, Mike Dalhuisen and Kirill Kabanov had the famed Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, an assists and a fight.

And the new affiliation with the islanders looks great as three of their prospects — Dalhuisen, Kabanov and Mike Keenan — scored.

Whew. We’ll see what they do for an encore.
