When asked about Garet Hunt’s two fights in Friday’s 3-1 loss to Alaska, Thunder coach Matt Thomas simply said “Hunt loves to fight.”
That’s true, and he’s done it more than anyone else in team history.
According to hockeyfights.com, which does a great job of keeping track of these things, Hunt has had 115 fights in his five seasons with the Thunder, including 19 this year. And Thomas points out that he usually has a good reason to drop his gloves. The first battle happened after Dustin Molle of Alaska took some liberties with his stick, and the second occurred after the Thunder thought Chris Clackson made a questionable hit.
“He holds people accountable,” Thomas said. “Hunt’s the heartbeat of our team, man. You can’t come into our building and play us and make even a half dirty play when he’s on the ice. He’s going to get you.”
