34th Annual Community Bankers Classic first serve

The tournament has begun here at Spanos Center before a sparse crowd as Northern Illinois faces Nevada.

Ruth Lawanson replaced former Pacific standout Devin Scruggs as the Wolf Pack’s coach prior to last season. Still, there remains a local tie with Nevada as its sophomore middle blocker Tessa Lea’ea starred at Chavez High School.

As for the match, Northern Illinois, which is coming off a NCAA Tournament appearance under coach Ray Gooden and is ranked 17th in the NCAA.com RPI rankings, should win and leads 10-6 in the first game as Mary Kurisch has three early kills.

More later.
