Hard to watch

The team I was pretty high on just a couple weeks ago is in serious trouble. Something has gone horribly awry for the Pacific men’s basketball team in the past two games. Its defense was virutally non-existent in the second half in their loss against New Mexico State last Saturday and they looked lethargic and uninspired on Thursday facing [...]

First thoughts on the new Thunder owner

Brad Rowbotham is a hockey fan who now owns a team. It’s a dream come true for him, and at first glance, a good move for the Thunder and its fans. His enthusiasm is tempered with good business sense. He mentioned that he is a very competitive person, but understands the realities of minor league hockey and [...]

Cool Canadian customer

Brad Rowbotham was introduced as owner-in-waiting by the Thunder on Monday. The Canadian oil man won’t have to wait long, probably three to six weeks while the league and city approve the deal. The 41-year-old replaces Michael Reinsdorf, who brought the team to Stockton in 2005. Reinsdorf’s biggest contribution to the franchise was being smart enough [...]

Setting the pace

The high-flying New Mexico State Aggies came into tonight’s game averaging 77.9 points per game. Pacific leads 33-29 at halftime, which means the Aggies are on pace for 58. The key? Jahmar Young had zero points until the final minute of the half, but scored the last four for New Mexico State. Young averages 20.9 per [...]

White Out

The crowd has mostly filed in at Spanos Center and the plans to have a white out on ESPNU should work. Extra credit goes to athletic director Lynn King for wearing white pants to go with his white shirt and the Orange Army for actually painting themselves white with Tiger stripes.

Plunger promo aimed at Thunder

You can’t say the Bakersfield Condors don’t have an original sense of humor when it comes to their promotions. On Saturday, the team will give away 2,000 plungers to its fans with a Thunder logo inside the cup. Not exactly subtle, but pretty funny. And the Condors have a history of bathroom humor, having given away [...]

Community Day

Pacific athletics is offering free admission to Saturday’s softball and baseball games. They’re calling it Community Day and it gives people an opportunity to go on campus and check out the Tigers’ softball and baseball squads. Fans can stay at either game or check them both out. The softball team is playing a doubleheader against [...]

A glimpse of the Thunder’s world away from the ice

The Record is running a project on Sunday called “Thunder All Access,” which takes a behind-the-scenes look at how the team prepares for games, and what happens on the bench during the contest and in the locker room between periods. The thing that struck me most about the players were how calm and serene they were [...]

A quick weather report

It was cloudy and in the high 30s in Okalhoma City, Okla. on Thursday. I bring this up because the Edmonton Oilers, the Thunder’s NHL parent franchise, is planning to move its America Hockey League affiliation to Oklahoma City next season. And if it was there now, the Thunder would actually be getting the three players [...]
