My favorite Teddy Bear Toss story
We’re a few hours away from the start of the Thunder’s game against the Victoria Salmon Kings at Stockton Arena, which features the annual Teddy Bear Toss for charity.
The idea is to throw the stuffed animals after the Thunder’s first goal. But a few years ago things almost went terribly wrong.
Kirk Goodman, Stockton’s director of [...]

Thoughts after another Thunder blowout
The Thunder has looked great the past two games, and the Victoria Salmon Kings clearly haven’t played well.
And that’s how you get a blow out.
The Thunder thumped the Salmon Kings 7-1 on Friday, following up its 7-3 win on Wednesday. The surprise is not that Stockton could win, but that its hasn’t been that competitive. [...]

Aggressive play helps Thunder get over .500
There’s no secret as to why the Thunder beat Alaska on Saturday.
Stockton kept going to the net, attacking Alaska goalie Frank Doyle consistently, especially in the first period. The result was a 4-2 win and a 17-16-6 record.
Stockton coach Matt Thomas also saw other things he’s got to be happy about: Igor Gongalsky scoring twice [...]

Ford starts
Joe Ford was in the starting lineup and began the game on UC Davis point guard Mark Payne.
He’s shown no ill effects so far as the Tigers have forced three Aggies misses early.

So those watching on ESPNU will see the familiar No. 42 despite lingering soreness in left calf. Ford was kneed in the calf against Cal State Fullerton Thursday night, which caused a painful contusion [...]

One more thing ….
Almost forgot:
I liked the throwback jerseys, which were black with yellow block lettering which spelled out “STOCKTON”
Pretty classy.
When I first heard the Thunder was going to wear throwback jerseys, I assumed it would come out in Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies gear.
OK, that was a joke.

Thunder needs to load up for shootouts
It is undoubtedly tough for Thunder fans to watch Judd Blackwater get the game winner for Alaska in the shootout against the Thunder at Stockton Arena.
But Thunder coach Matt Thomas is correct when he said the Thunder’s problem in shootouts isn’t the other team.
It’s a little surprising Stockton is 0-4 in shootouts. It has players [...]

Dubnyk suffers growing pains at NHL level
Former Thunder goaltender Devan Dubnyk is getting his first extended action in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers. It hasn’t been easy, but he is getting invaluable experience at the top level of the sport.
In six NHL experiences, Dubnyk is 0-4-0 with a 4.09 goals against average and a .860 saves percentage. Those are rough [...]
