« Outtakes: Remembering September

Stanley Limbaugh paints one of the blue lines on the ice at the Stockton Arena’s hockey rink in preparation for the Heat’s American Hockey League season in downtown Stockton. Water is applied to the chilled concrete surface as a fine mist in hundreds of layers which takes several hours to finish. The logos and advertisements, all fabric decals, are laid down at about the halfway point, as are the lines and face-off circles and dots which are hand-painted. Then more layers of ice are sprayed on top to finish the process. The Heat will play the Bakersfield Condors in a preseason game at the arena on September 30 and then take on the Ontario Reign in their home opener on October 6. [[CLIFFORD OTO/THE RECORD]
