« Readers Photo Challenge assignment: A day in the life

Joey Cook wields a 9-ft wide wand that shoots a fine spray of water as he works as a part of crew putting down a layer of ice on the Stockton Arena’s hockey rink in preparation for the Stockton Heat’s American Hockey League season in downtown Stockton. Water is applied to the chilled concrete surface as a fine mist in hundreds of layers which takes several hours to finish. The Heat will play the Bakersfield Condors in a preseason game at the arena on September 30 and then take on the Ontario Reign in their home opener on October 6. All these photos were taken on the same day. [CLIFFORD OTO/THE RECORD]
