A “super blue blood” moon occurs over the Cosumnes River Preserve near Thornton in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 30. The moon is a “supermoon” because it is closer the Earth than a normal full moon. It is also a “blue” moon because it is the second full moon in the same month (the first occurring on January 1). The blood moon references a lunar eclipse which at it’s peak colors the moon orange/red.. [CLIFFORD OTO/THE RECORD]
