Union Pacific employee John Brown uses a grinder to smooth the edge of a steel and concrete crossing pad to ready it for welding at the railroad crossing on Alpine Avenue between Alvarado Avenue and Coronado Avenue in Stockton. The road is closed due to a repairing and repaving project of the crossing that started on Feb. 7 and is expected to be reopened by next Tuesday CLIFFORD OTO/THE RECORD
