Camera club photo ops

Here are a couple of new photo ops for you at this year’s San Joaquin County Fair in Stockton. In addition to the Stockton Camera Club’s annual carnival lights workshop (Friday, June 14, 7 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., meet in Building 2), the club will host two new hands-on meetings at the fair.

The first is the “light spinning/painting” workshop held on Saturday, June 15, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Painting with light photos are time exposures with a twist. While the camera’s shutter is open for an extended period of time, light sources are moved within the scene creating fanciful streaks of light trails. A tripod is necessary and a remote cable release is recommended (though not required).

The last workshop, held on Sunday, June 16, from 3 p.m to 6 p.m. is the “goblet pour and splash” workshop. You probably have seen photos in advertisements for wine and spirits of various beverages and ice cubes being poured into glasses and splashing just so. They look deceptively simple, but getting photos of liquids, especially in motion, can be difficult at times. Stockton Camera Club and Manteca Camera Club members will show you how to do it with this gathering.
