The Central United Methodist Church in Stockton is an impressive looking building. Its roofline that sweeps up to its spire and cross has these open structural “ribs” that remind me of the bones of a whale or other large animal. In the middle at ground level there is a wide, open walkway that separates the sanctuary on the larger side from a smaller meeting room. It’s open to the elements though the rib-like beams still arch overhead. Mirrored windows reflect the beams as well as the hanging lights and some of the windows of the opposite side to make an interesting and complex composition.
