Random Photo #11

In keeping with the spirit of my previous entry, I’m starting an occasional feature simply called “Random Photo.” They may or may not have an interesting story behind them, but they’ll be pictures that in one way or another have caught my eye in my wanderings around the city and county.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving along Shimizu Drive along Smith Canal in Stockton when I saw a short palm tree growing on the opposite side of the canal from me. The late-afternoon light came in at a nice angle and gave everything a warm tone. The fronds, hanging down near the water’s edge, were perfectly reflected in the canal’s still waters, but when I got out to shoot it a duck near my side of the canal splashed around in the water. I shot quickly before the water near the palm was disturbed. But as the ripples started to reach the far shore, they lessened. The reflections were only mildly distorted and made for an interesting, almost impressionistic scene.
