Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: “You know, I’m a rather brilliant surgeon. Perhaps I can help you with that hump.”
Igor: “What hump?”
A fast shutter speed can stop miniscule slices of time. It can capture moments that are just unnoticed fleeting blinks of an eye.
I shot Kimball High varsity baseball pitcher Cody Wagner during a game at Lathrop High School and I was using a fast shutter speed to capture his throwing motion. His jersey seemed slightly big on him but I didn’t notice anything until after I downloaded the photos onto my computer back at the office. At one point in his throwing motion his loose-fitting jersey seemed to float up and created a ‘hump” over his right shoulder. He kind of looked like he could be a stand-in for Dr. Frankenstein’s assistant Igor. But because the hump only lasted for a fraction of the second due to the ferocity of Wagner’s throw, most people didn’t even see it happen.
