The price of fame

At the Ports’ home opener I got a cute shot of 3-year-old Julian Benton of Stockton getting a high five from the team’s mascot Splash. Nearby was Julian’s big brother, 9-year-old Elbert Benton. I could tell that he wanted to be in the paper too but to his credit he didn’t try to take the limelight from his little brother.  A few innings later Elbert got his chance for a little bit of recognition.

Elbert and his mother Dominique Benton participated in a between-innings game. In the event, new this season for the Ports,  Elbert’s mom got to throw a pie in his face in front of a crowd of about 4,000 Ports fans. Ah, the price of fame.
