It’s Hammer-time!

I had an assignment to shoot a portrait of Edison High School varsity wide receiver Romon Bridges during practice, but when I arrived at the school, reporter Steve Roberson, who got there ahead of me, said that Bridges wasn’t there. Roberson, who was interviewing another player at the time, said just to ask head coach Andre Horace if he had another player he could recommend that we shoot.

Horace called over lineman Richard Hammer. He was quite the imposing figure. MaxPreps lists the senior as 6-feet tall and 300 lbs. The coach told me that Hammer can bench press a staggering 400-pounds! Across his right forearm was Hammer’s last name tattooed in black and red ink. He made and excellent last-minute replacement. Good call on Horace’s part!
